Ligia Richter

Ligia Richter is a photographer born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, in 1966, currently residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The granddaughter of a fiercely independent grandmother that built a baking empire, the daughter of a visionary mother that worked as a self-taught prominent photo journalist, Ligia comes from a lineage of creative and driven women. It was her mother that first introduced her to photography and infused her with a passion for the art.

I remember the day when my mother came home with her brand new Canon and a set of lenses. I was impressed with the telephoto lens. I had never seen a camera this fancy before. I admired the way she wasn’t intimidated by what seemed a very complicated instrument. She sat night after night with the manual until she mastered the art of photography. My mother took amazing photographs. She was a natural. Her pictures told a story and I learned from her that an image alone can make a statement. -- Ligia

Influenced by her mother’s search for depth in her subjects and grandmother’s clinical eye for bringing out people’s best qualities, Ligia tells a story with every photo.

In 1987, Ligia moved to Philadelphia, PA. Her exhibits highlight life in her native Honduras.  Ligia uses her photos to show you the world her grandmother and mother raised her to see. Her deep appreciation for her culture and heritage is evident throughout the series.

Ligia crafts her art in black and white silver prints, color prints on canvas and cotton rag paper. All printing and framing materials are conservation quality to protect and preserve the artwork.
